Carmen's passion for dance began at an early age. Starting classes at Loudoun School of Ballet in Leesburg, Virginia, from day one it was evident that she had a natural affinity and a deep seeded love for the art form. In 2010, Carmen began training at Pacific Northwest Ballet School in Seattle, Washington. During that time, she was privileged to learn from such esteemed faculty as Dana Hanson, Lauri-Michelle Houk, Marissa Albee, Kelly Boal, and Marjorie Thompson, among other guest teachers. Their skillful guidance not only set her on the path to a professional ballet career, but inspired her to become a teacher herself. While training at PNB school, Carmen attended summer intensives at San Francisco Ballet School, Miami City Ballet School, and Boston Ballet School.
In 2015, Carmen moved to Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania to continue her studies in the graduate program at Pittsburgh Ballet Theatre. In 2018, she joined American Contemporary Ballet under the direction of Lincoln Jones as an apprentice, and was promoted to main company in 2019. While dancing at ACB Carmen has had the opportunity to originate many roles, and has performed as a demi-soloist in Jones' "Nutcracker Suite", and "Inferno", as well as performing a number of works by the greatest choreographer of the 20th century, George Balanchine. This fall will mark her 5th season in the company.
Since moving to California Carmen has enjoyed stepping into many new roles, including her role as Assistant to the Artistic Director at American Contemporary Ballet, and the ever-important role of being a dance educator. Carmen is currently teaching ballet to advanced students at Pacific Dance Center in Redondo Beach, CA. She is also available for private instruction and master classes in the Los Angeles area. During her breaks at ACB she often models, for both print and fine art modeling. As an artist, Carmen always enjoys working with other artists, and therefore takes great pride and joy in her work modeling for sculpture, drawing, painting and photography mediums.
